18. The Christian and the Social Order.Micah 6:8; Proverbs 14:34;Matthew 5;14-16 KJV Christianity is not a private faith hidden behind church walls—it speaks truth to the real world and makes a real difference in society. As the Baptist Faith & Message reminds us, believers are called to make the will of Christ supreme not only in our lives but also in the culture around us.The Bible teaches that Christians have a dual responsibility:1.To proclaim salvation through the grace of Jesus Christ, knowing that only the new birth can transform lives.2.To live as salt and light in the world, influencing laws, morals, and social customs for righteousness. The Christian’s witness in society must be marked by justice, mercy, and humility (Micah 6:8). We speak against sin—not as those who are better, but as sinners redeemed by Christ. Our faith compels us to oppose racism, greed, immorality, and injustice, while also showing mercy to the poor, the sick, the defenseless, and the oppressed. As Jesus declared, “Ye are the light of the world… let your light so shine before men” (Matt. 5:14–16). Governments, cultures, and nations will rise and fall, but the Church is eternal. Until Christ returns, our social responsibility is to reflect His light in a dark world, to care for our neighbors, and to call society to righteousness through both word and deed. Our faith must not only be believed but lived out visibly in the world.
