Temptation to Place other Th..
Temptation to Place other Things before God. Deut. 6:10-15;Matt. 4:8-11 The temptation comes in that Jesus could take the kingdoms of the world now—without delay and without the road to the
cross that lay before Him. The entire chapter of Isaiah 53 points to a Suffering Servant. This prophecy about Jesus points to His suffering on our behalf, His death to give us healing and life, and His victory. Satan offered a shortcut: The rule and reign of a
kingdom without having to suffer for it. Satan does this with us. He is cunning. He offers us good things—even things promised to us—but he entices us to obtain them in sinful ways. For Jesus to rule over all the kingdoms of the world is a good thing, but to pursue that over obedience to the Father is wrong. Jesus rejected that and responded by citing the truth found in Deuteronomy 6:13: “Worship the Lord your God, and serve only him.”Satan is still very much in the business of idolatry today. His goal is to get us to worship anything other than God. There are 3 good things God has given us that often get turned into objects of worship.1.Money 2. Sex 3. Authority. Jesus’s response to such temptation should be ours as well: “Worship the Lord your God, and
serve only him.”
