When The Foundations are Des..
When the Foundations are Destroyed Psalm 11:1-7Have you considered what many believe to be the proverbial last straw, the prophetical event that catapults what’s left of America into Revelation’s day. Granted, it has not always been a pleasant journey. In Psalm 11, this reflex comes from his unshakeable conviction that no matter what is happening—no matter that the “foundations are being shaken”—God is still in control: “He is in his holy temple; the LORD is on his heavenly throne”. In a world of chaos—of death, disease and disappointment—God is in control. These words in the mouths of David’s friends were meant to be a warning. The idea was, “The very foundation of Saul’s government is destroyed. What can a righteous one like you do, except flee?” What can the righteous do? When David heard these words from his friends, his head probably told him there was something to them. But his heart told him that to heed this advice and to flee would be to compromise. Their question is, when the foundations of the state and of society are overthrown, when law, order, and justice are perverted, “what can the righteous do?” The answer in the minds of these friends is, “nothing”; therefore flee. But David does not so think. He indignantly repudiates this faint-hearted counsel, and declares that his trust is in the Lord .Faith will do more for us than flight. Some people are very clever at retreat, and strong on resignation: but these may be but castles of the cowardly. But what is the ground of David’s confidence, and of ours? Verses 4–7 declare it. David’s friends look to earth alone, but he to heaven: they judge by the appearance of the moment, but he by God’s righteous government.
