Joshua: A Faith Rooted in God’s Word.Joshua 1:1-9,16-18 KJV This Bible study explores Joshua’s transition into leadership after Moses’ death, and how his faith was firmly grounded in obedience to God’s Word.In Joshua 1:1–9, God commissions Joshua to lead Israel into the Promised Land. Though the task is daunting, God repeatedly tells Joshua to be “strong and of a good courage.” The key to Joshua’s strength is not personal ability but dependence on God’s presence and Word.
Verse 8 highlights this: Joshua is instructed to meditate on the Book of the Law day and night and to live according to it. Success and courage would come not from military power, but from unwavering obedience to God’s instruction. In verses 16–18, the people affirm their loyalty to Joshua just as they followed Moses, pledging to obey him—so long as he follows the Lord. Leadership through obedience: Joshua’s authority and success depend on his faithfulness to God’s commands.
God’s presence brings courage: “I will be with thee” (v. 5) is the ultimate assurance for Joshua and for us today.
Meditating on God’s Word: A strong, enduring faith is rooted in regular reflection and application of Scripture.
Unity and support: God’s people thrive when they follow godly leadership and stay united in purpose.
