DAY 3 — LOVE IS NOT SELFISH
DAY 3 — LOVE IS NOT SELFISH. [LOVE ASKS “WHAT CAN I GIVE?” NOT “WHAT CAN I GET?”] ROMANS 12:10 KJV Selfishness puts “me” first. Biblical love puts the other person before self. A Christ-centered marriage grows stronger when both husband and wife stop asking, “What am I getting?” and begin asking, “What am I giving?” Selfishness asks:
“WHAT ABOUT ME?”
Love asks:
“WHAT DO YOU NEED?”
Selfishness keeps score.
LOVE TEARS UP THE SCORECARD.
Selfishness demands to be served.
LOVE LOOKS FOR WAYS TO SERVE.
Selfishness waits for the other person to change.
LOVE GOES FIRST.
Before criticizing your spouse’s selfishness today, ask God to show you your own.
And then ask one simple question:
“WHAT CAN I GIVE TODAY INSTEAD OF WHAT CAN I GET?”
That’s the kind of love Jesus demonstrated toward us.
And that’s the kind of love that can transform a marriage.
