LESSON 4: Living IN THE CONT..
LESSON 4: Living IN THE CONTROL of THE HOLY SPIRIT. Galatians 5:17–23; Ephesians 5:18 KJV In this Lesson, we examine what it truly means to live under the control of the Holy Spirit. From Galatians 5:17–23, we saw the clear conflict between the flesh and the Spirit. The Christian life is a daily battle of control. The flesh produces works that lead to destruction, while the Spirit produces fruit that reflects the character of Christ—love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance. Ephesians 5:18 commands believers to “be filled with the Spirit.” This filling is not a one-time event, but a continual, moment-by-moment surrender. Though the Holy Spirit indwells every believer at salvation, His control in our lives depends upon our willingness to yield to Him daily. We learned that living under the Spirit’s control involves:• Recognizing the problem of control — admitting the struggle between flesh and Spirit.• Following the procedure for control — desiring to be right with God, confessing sin, yielding ourselves fully, and appropriating by faith the Spirit’s filling.• Embracing the potential for ministry — understanding that the Holy Spirit not only produces fruit in us but also gives spiritual gifts for service in the local church. The Spirit-filled life is not passive. It is powerful. It provides victory over sin, direction for decisions, strength for leadership, and effectiveness in ministry. As men—leaders in our homes, church, and community—we must choose daily to surrender control to the Holy Spirit. The central challenge of this lesson is simple yet searching: Who is in control of your life right now—the flesh or the Spirit?
