SPEAKING TRUTH. Luke 18:18–30 KJV In a world that often values comfort over conviction and acceptance over truth, followers of Jesus Christ are called to speak the truth with courage, compassion, and love.
In Luke 18, a rich young ruler came to Jesus asking one of life’s greatest questions: “What shall I do to inherit eternal life?” Jesus did not tell him what he wanted to hear. He lovingly confronted the one thing that possessed his heart and stood between him and complete surrender to God.
In this Bible study, “Speaking Truth,” we learn that genuine love does not avoid difficult truth. Jesus showed us how to care about people without compromising God’s Word. We must speak truth with grace rather than harshness, compassion rather than condemnation, and conviction rather than compromise.
But this lesson also turns the question toward us: Is there anything we are unwilling to surrender to follow Jesus?
Following Christ sometimes means hearing hard truths, making difficult choices, and surrendering what we would rather keep. Yet nothing this world offers can compare with knowing and following Jesus Christ.
Truth may challenge us. Truth may convict us. Truth may make us uncomfortable. But when God’s truth leads us to Jesus, that truth can change our lives forever.
Following Jesus means choosing truth over comfort.
