God’s Purpose Wasn’t My..
God’s Purpose wasn’t My Desire!_09 Jonah 4:1-3 There are occasions in life when all of us need people to be caring, compassionate, and merciful. When dealing with any critical situation—severe illness, divorce, death, to name a few—the human heart longs for others to be understanding and kindhearted, perhaps even forgiving.During such times, people from all walks of life (believers, in particular) should extend a helping hand to the person or persons in need. There are times, however, when people are hesitant to reach out to others. When a person’s lifestyle is so wicked that we do not want to be associated with the individual; or when we feel the individual does not deserve to be helped, we may not show kindness and compassion. We might hold back in judgment. But we can be assured of one truth: God knows every heart and longs to have mercy on every individual. An entire city has just been converted through one sermon! If this isn’t the greatest revival on record it certainly is one of the quickest! It took longer for God to get the preacher to be willing to go preach than it did for God to change the city. Jonah witnessed something that very few people will ever witness—genuine revival. In fact, the only person who didn’t have revival was the evangelist! Every single person in Jonah chapter three experienced revival except Jonah. He was his own worst enemy! In Jonah’s complaining prayer which he prayed to God after the great revival in Nineveh to express his great Discontent over God giving grace to Nineveh, selfishness is manifested in the pronouns, the philosophy, and the past of Jonah. ONE THING WE NEED TO ASK OURSELVES Eph.5:1;1 Cor.13:1-4-AM I MORE LIKE JESUS THAN JONAH?
