The Bible does not present such practices as harmless, because they encourage us to seek guidance from God. Truth is found in God, and He gives us all the direction we need. The Israelites lived in a world that embraced occult practices. Occult practices were widespread in the promised land of Canaan as well. God instructed the Israelites, His covenant people, that they were to completely reject the occult practices. In today’s terminology, these were occult practices that involved the paranormal (supernatural). The Canaanites believed in many different gods, not the true God followed by the Israelites. We do not need to be afraid! We will see that, through the truth of who we are in Christ and the armor He has made available to us, we can stand confidently against the Devil’s schemes to entrap and enslave. Yes, Satan is mighty, but our God is Almighty!
