The Chronicles of Christmas

This series the Chronicles of Christmas takes a look at the events surrounding the birth of Jesus. When we look at these verses, we find a timetable of not only the birth of John the Baptist, but also of the Lord Jesus Christ. The birth coincides with important events in the Jewish calendar. We know that John the Baptist was conceived late in the third month of the Jewish year. This was called the month of Sivan which would be around our (March and April). Advancing six months from this time would put us late in the ninth month of the Jewish month of Kislev (November/December). This is the time of our story here in these Chronicles and would mean that Jesus was not born, but conceived at this time of the year in the first half of December. It is interesting to note that the first day of the Jewish festival of Hanukkah, is celebrated on the 25th day of Kislev which is around the first part of December. The Jews call this time “The Festival of Lights.”
