He rejects entirely the materialism (things) of the world and warns the worldly and materialistic that severe judgment is coming.Blessed are the poor. This does not mean that a man must be poverty-stricken and financially poor. Hunger, nakedness, and slums are not pleasing to God, especially in a world of plenty. Jesus is not talking about material poverty.He turns his primary attention away from the things of this world, knowing things can never make him rich in spirit.He turns his primary attention to God and His kingdom knowing that God alone can make him rich in spirit
