Deuteronomy 15:15 (KJV) 15 And thou shalt remember that thou wast a bondman in the land of Egypt, and the LORD thy God redeemed thee: therefore, I command thee this thing to day.
As you read the book of Deuteronomy, a challenge that is often given by Moses involves remembering. On six different occasions Moses said, “Thou shalt remember.” The word “remember” means “to mark.” The idea is that there are certain things we are to mark in our heart and mind. Or to put it another way, Moses was telling them that there were certain things they were never to forget. As believers, there are certain things God has done for us that we should never forget. These things should be marked in our heart and mind. We honor our U.S. citizens who have died in war fighting for the freedom that we now enjoy. It is a holiday for us to simply remember the price that was paid for our freedom. National observance is marked officially by placing of a wreath on the tomb of the unknown soldier in Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia.
