Introduction
We live in a world where many relationships are treated like contracts.
A contract says:
“As long as you do your part, I’ll do mine.”
But God designed relationships, especially marriage, to be built on covenant.
A covenant says:
“I am committed, even when times are difficult.”
The greatest example of covenant love is Jesus Christ.
He did not abandon us when we failed Him.
He loved us, sacrificed for us, and remains faithful to us today.
Tonight we will learn how commitment, sacrifice, and faithfulness strengthen relationships.

I. COVENANT IS STRONGER THAN A CONTRACT
A. A Contract Depends on Performance
Many people approach relationships with conditions.
- “I’ll love you if…”
- “I’ll stay committed if…”
Contracts focus on what each person receives.
B. A Covenant Depends on Commitment
A covenant focuses on faithfulness.
God repeatedly demonstrates covenant love throughout Scripture.
He remains faithful even when people fail.
C. Strong Relationships Are Built on Commitment
Feelings change.
Circumstances change.
But commitment remains.

There are seasons of:
- Stress
- Illness
- Financial pressure
- Disappointment
- Loss
Difficult seasons do not mean a relationship has failed.
B. Faithfulness Is Proven During Trials
Anyone can remain committed when everything is easy.
Character is revealed when life becomes difficult.
C. God Honors Endurance
Ecclesiastes teaches that two are stronger than one.
When Christ is at the center, the threefold cord becomes strong and enduring.

How has God helped you remain faithful during a difficult season of life?
Spiritual Insight
The Cross is the greatest picture of covenant love.
Jesus did not go to Calvary because it was easy.
He went because He was committed to the Father’s will and to our redemption.
Biblical love is not based upon convenience.
It is based upon commitment.
When Christ becomes the center of a relationship, His strength enables believers to endure difficult seasons and remain faithful.
The Holy Spirit gives us the power to love beyond our natural ability.

1. Am I treating relationships as a covenant or a contract?
