At Bethel Crossroads Baptist Church, we love a good testimony—but we also know this truth: the Lord never called His people to retire from serving Him.
Many of us have spent decades doing exactly what God asked. We worked hard jobs, raised families, paid bills, built homes, and carried this church on praying knees. Our hands are a little slower now, our backs remind us when rain is coming, and we don’t bounce like we used to—but praise God, we’re still here.
“I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.” Psalm 37:25 (KJV)
Let’s be honest: our bodies wear out before our calling does. The spirit is willing even when the knees sound like popcorn. But doing nothing was never God’s plan.
“And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.” Galatians 6:9 (KJV)
The Bible never mentions a spiritual rocking chair. There is no verse that says, “Thou shalt sit down and watch others do the work.” As long as we have breath, God has purpose.
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” Matthew 5:16 (KJV)
Our seniors may not climb ladders or run youth retreats—but oh, the power of a praying saint, a kind word, a phone call, a testimony, or simply showing up faithful. Gray hair in the Bible is not weakness—it’s a crown.
“The hoary head is a crown of glory, if it be found in the way of righteousness.” Proverbs 16:31 (KJV)
And to our younger generations: now is your time. The baton is being passed—not dropped. This church needs your energy, your strength, your willingness. God didn’t save you to sit; He saved you to serve.
“Also, I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.” Isaiah 6:8 (KJV)
The older saints bring wisdom. The younger saints bring strength. Together, we bring glory to God.
“Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.”
— 1 Corinthians 4:2 (KJV)
At Bethel Crossroads, we are still shining, still serving, and still moving—maybe a little slower, maybe with a limp—but always forward. If the Lord isn’t finished with us yet, then neither are we.
So don’t retire your faith.
Don’t dim your light.
And don’t wait for someone else to do what God may be calling you to do.
Because one day, when we do lay down our tools, may it be said:
“Well done, thou good and faithful servant.” Matthew 25:21 (KJV)
No rocking chairs—just rejoicing saints.
In Christ,
Darrell
