The Sound of the Shofar: (5781)Exodus 19:8-20 / Joshua 6:1-9/ Judges 7:16,18 Commentators have tracked the word “Shofar” in 7 parts of the Hebrew Scripture: Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Joshua Chronicles and Psalms. I am only going to use three scriptures for tonight. On Friday evening, September 18, 2020, Jews will begin to celebrate the passing of another year. It will all begin with sunset in Jerusalem around 7:05PM to end September 19, 2020 and follow the various time zones around the globe becoming 1 Tishri 5781. Rosh Hashanah will be observed for two days, simply because of the 24 time zones around the world. It will take two days for all Jews around the globe to observe the significance of that special day. Rosh Hashanah will mark the beginning of the year 5781, which Jews believe to be 5,781 years since Creation. It was God who stood behind the purple Hill of Eternity and mapped out the plans of this World. I Quote Colo. Jackson, “HE stepped up on nothing. Reached with nothing back through nowhere until He got somewhere. Then My God grabbed hold of something brought something back through nowhere. And Then Hung something on nothing.” This speaks to how we get to God. And it’s almost as if a shofar sounds in the distance every time a sinner -Believes, -Repents, -Confesses Jesus as his Lord,-And seals the deal by allowing themselves to be buried in the waters of baptism. It’s Jesus that forgives our sins. It’s Jesus who changes our lives. And it’s Jesus that gives us a reason to live every day of every year.
