These verses reveal that man was created by God in His image and likeness, setting humanity apart from the rest of creation. This divine image gives every person inherent dignity, value, and purpose.First, we acknowledge that God is the Creator of humanity. In His wisdom, He created man with both a physical form and a spiritual nature, designed to reflect His holiness and glory. The Bible teaches that we were not an accident or the result of random chance, but intentionally made by a loving Creator with a special purpose in mind.Next, we focus on the purpose of mankind. God gave Adam and Eve the responsibility to “be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it” (Genesis 1:28). This demonstrates that humanity was created to rule over the earth, caring for creation and exercising dominion under God’s authority. Our work, relationships, and stewardship of the earth all fall under this mandate.We also examine the image of God in man, which is central to the doctrine of humanity. Being made in God’s image means we have a capacity for relationship, moral choice, creativity, and the ability to reflect God’s character.
