Have you ever had that deed misinterpreted or misunderstood?Where your compassion was rewarded with conflict. Where helpfulness was rewarded with hate and humiliation. Where love received “lashing out” in return. Where assumptions and presumptions were blown out of proportion and you were rewarded with ridicule. If you have ever been in this position, you know it is very painful and that it is a miserable experience. David wanted to show kindness, but this time his attempt led to war instead of peace. His overtures to his neighbor were misunderstood, and David had to defend his own honor as well as the honor of the Lord and His people.What should be our response when we see people mistreated? The present passage teaches us, gives us a dynamic example in the life of David. For several of David’s ambassadors were shamefully mistreated, being falsely arrested and publicly humiliated. Just as God enabled David to soundly defeat the enemy who had shamefully treated his ambassadors, so God enables us to triumph over those who persecute us. God gives us the power to walk victoriously through any and all persecution.
