When the Cost Becomes Too High

person Pastor Darrell Bailey

When the Cost Becomes Too High. James 5:1-6; Philippians 4:19 KJV In James 5:1-6, the apostle James delivers a solemn warning to the wealthy who have accumulated riches unjustly and used their wealth selfishly. He rebukes those who exploit workers, live in indulgence, and neglect justice, declaring that their hoarded wealth will testify against them on the day of judgment. This passage challenges us to examine the cost of pursuing material gain at the expense of righteousness and compassion.Philippians 4:19 reminds believers of the sufficiency of God’s provision. Instead of trusting in worldly wealth, Paul encourages us to rely on God, who faithfully supplies all our needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. This verse reassures us that dependence on God, rather than on material possessions, brings true security and contentment. Together, these passages call us to evaluate our priorities and practices, ensuring that our pursuit of success does not come at the expense of others or our faith in God’s provision. When the cost of wealth compromises our character, testimony, or eternal perspective, it becomes too high. True riches are found in serving God and trusting His promises.
