WHAT KIND OF BIRD ARE YOU?

person Pastor Darrell Bailey

WHAT KIND OF BIRD ARE YOU? This message asks a very personal and powerful question: What kind of bird are you spiritually? In Job 12:7, the Bible says the beasts and the birds can teach us something, and throughout Scripture God uses birds as pictures of spiritual truth. In this sermon, I walk through six different birds found in the Bible and show how each one represents a condition of the soul. The raven represents the lost soul that is comfortable around death and sin, always wandering farther from God. The dove represents the Holy Spirit and the believer who is Spirit-led, seeking clean and peaceful places. The bat pictures the hypocrite—someone who wants to hang around the things of God but still loves darkness more than light. The sparrow is a picture of salvation and reminds us that even though we may feel small and forgotten, God sees us, values us, and redeemed us through His grace.I also deal with the danger of becoming like the vulture and the swan. The vulture is a picture of spiritual death, always feeding on corruption, negativity, and things that destroy the soul. The swan represents deception—something beautiful and clean on the outside while hiding corruption on the inside, just like Jesus warned about in Matthew 23. This message is meant to make us stop and honestly examine our hearts. Are we lost like the raven, pretending like the bat, deceived like the swan, or feeding on dead things like the vulture? Or are we redeemed like the sparrow and led by the Spirit like the dove? The whole purpose of this sermon is to challenge people to look beyond appearances and ask themselves where they truly stand with God before it is too late.
