Today we have looked at how that power can be applied to your everyday conversations. We may tend to talk too much about ourselves, to speak too harshly before we have all the facts, to take too much pleasure in gossip … but these are tendencies that can be overcome. Know that profound words—words of wisdom—can be a blessing: They can give life and be refreshing. Unlike a brook that bubbles with cool, clear water, the words of fools are like a well that is deep, dark, and dangerous. It is impossible to see its bottom (motivation or intent), and a person who falls into it will surely drown. “The mouth of a righteous man is a well of life: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked” (Pr.10:11).
