THEY HELD THE LINE
THEY HELD THE LINE. 1 Corinthians 15:29 KJV Will our generation stand? Paul’s entire argument in 1 Corinthians 15 is centered on one foundational truth: The Resurrection Changes Everything. Some in Corinth were denying the resurrection of the dead. Paul confronts this dangerous teaching by asking powerful questions.Paul essentially says:”If there is no resurrection why continue religious practices. This Memorial Day message is built around the powerful truth that every freedom we enjoy has been preserved because somebody stood their ground and held the line. American soldiers held the line for our nation’s freedom, and faithful Christians through the centuries held the line for the Gospel of Jesus Christ. In 1 Cor. 15, Paul is speaking about believers who suffered, sacrificed, and even died for Christ. In verse 29, Paul asks:”Else what shall they do which are baptized for the dead, if the dead rise not at all?” 1 Cor.15:29The message challenges us with this thought: now that many faithful saints have gone on to Heaven, who will rise up and take their place? Who will stand for truth in this generation? The sermon first points us to the resurrection hope believers have in Jesus Christ.”But now is Christ risen from the dead…” 1 Cor. 15:20 Because Jesus conquered death, Christians through the years were willing to suffer, sacrifice, and even die knowing the grave is not the end. America remains free because somebody held the line. The church remains alive because somebody held the line spiritually. The question this morning is not whether battles exist. The question is whether we will remain faithful when pressure comes. The torch has been passed to us.Now it is our watch.”
