THE SCROLL, THE SOB, AND THE SAVIOR. Revelation 5:1-7 KJV This scripture reveals one of the most powerful scenes in Scripture, unfolding God’s redemptive plan and exalting the worthiness of Jesus Christ. John first beholds a mysterious scroll in the right hand of God—sealed and unreachable—symbolizing God’s sovereign purposes for history and redemption, hidden from all creation. A meticulous search then follows, as a mighty angel proclaims the challenge of worthiness, yet no one in heaven, earth, or under the earth is found able to open the scroll. This leads to the sob of the apostle, exposing humanity’s helplessness and the seeming triumph of sin and judgment without a redeemer.Hope breaks forth with a magnificent Savior. One of the elders declares that the Lion of the tribe of Judah has prevailed. John then sees not a lion, but a Lamb as it had been slain—Jesus Christ—who alone is worthy to take the scroll and open its seals. The passage proclaims that redemption, authority, and victory belong exclusively to the crucified and risen Savior. Heaven’s despair is turned to worship as Christ stands revealed as the only One worthy of glory, honor, and power. When no one else could, Jesus Christ prevailed. Worthy is the Lamb.
