THE MOUNTAIN AND THE UPPER R..
THE MOUNTAIN AND THE UPPER ROOM.May 17, 2026 / 1 Sivan 5786 The Holy Spirit connects the fire of Mount Sinai in the Old Testament with the fire of Pentecost in the New Testament. At Mount Sinai, God came down in power, thunder, smoke, and fire to give His Law to His people. Exodus 19:18 says, “And mount Sinai was altogether on a smoke, because the LORD descended upon it in fire.” The mountain shook because the holy presence of God was there. Then in Acts 2, after the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus, the disciples gathered together in the upper room waiting on the promise of God. Suddenly, the Holy Spirit came down like a rushing mighty wind, and tongues of fire rested upon them. Acts 2:3–4 says, “And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire… And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost.”The Lord shows that what began at the mountain was fulfilled in the upper room. At Sinai, God wrote His Law on tables of stone, but at Pentecost, God began writing His Word upon the hearts of His people through the Holy Spirit. Sinai revealed God’s holiness and power, while Pentecost revealed God’s presence living inside believers.
The Lord reminds us that God never intended for His people to just experience religion from a distance. He wants His people filled with His Spirit, walking in obedience, boldness, and revival fire. The same God who shook the mountain is the same God who filled the upper room. The challenge of the message is this: Have we only admired the fire from afar, or have we truly allowed the Holy Spirit to change our hearts and lives? God is still calling people out of dead religion and into a real relationship filled with His power and presence.
