The Kiss in the Garden. Luke 22:47–48 (KJV) This message explores the tragic moment in the garden when Judas Iscariot betrayed Jesus Christ with a kiss, setting in motion the events that would lead to the crucifixion. Though the betrayal was carried out by sinful men, it ultimately unfolded according to the sovereign plan and foreknowledge of God.I. The Agony Before the Arrest. Before the soldiers arrived, Jesus experienced deep spiritual agony in the garden. Knowing the suffering that awaited Him, He prayed in submission to the Father’s will. This moment reveals both His true humanity and His perfect obedience as He prepared to become the sacrificial Lamb.II. The Betrayal of a Familiar Friend.Judas, one of the twelve disciples who had walked closely with Jesus, approached with a kiss—an act normally expressing love and loyalty. Instead, it became the sign of betrayal. This heartbreaking scene reminds us that the deepest wounds often come from those closest to us, and it exposes the deceitfulness of a heart that rejects Christ.III. The Authority of the Sovereign Christ.Even in the moment of betrayal and arrest, Jesus remained fully in control. Nothing occurred outside of God’s predetermined plan. Christ willingly surrendered Himself, demonstrating that He was not a helpless victim but the sovereign Savior fulfilling the mission of redemption.”The Kiss in the Garden” reveals the sorrow of betrayal, the suffering of Christ, and the sovereignty of God’s redemptive plan. What appeared to be the triumph of wicked men was actually the unfolding of God’s purpose to provide salvation through the sacrifice of His Son.
