The Governor’s Dilemma03
The Governor’s Dilemma. John 18:37–38; Matthew 27:19 (KJV)When Politics Condemned the Prince of Peace. In this message from Acts of the Apostles 2:23 and the Roman trial accounts in Gospel of John 18 and Gospel of Matthew 27, we step into one of the most tragic moments in history—when a man with authority chose compromise over truth. Pontius Pilate stood face to face with Jesus Christ, the embodiment of truth, yet asked the haunting question, “What is truth?” Though he found no fault in Jesus, Pilate was caught in a dilemma—torn between conviction and political pressure, between doing what was right and preserving his position. This message reveals how God clearly spoke to Pilate in multiple ways—through his wife, his conscience, the truth itself, the voices of the crowd, and the circumstances surrounding him. Yet despite these warnings, Pilate chose to surrender to fear and public opinion, ultimately condemning the innocent Son of God. At the same time, Acts 2:23 reminds us that behind human injustice was the sovereign plan of God. Though Jesus was crucified by “wicked hands,” it was all according to God’s divine purpose to bring about redemption.
