The Fall of Judah and the Destruction of Jerusalem_49 588-586 BC 2 Chronicles 36:14-21;2 KINGS 25:1-21;JEREMIAH 39:1-10;Jeremiah 52:4-30.Jeremiah had preached and come to King Zedekiah at least six times with no change to repentance. While we still live on this earth, we do have the means to escape the coming judgment. As stated, God’s condemnation will not fall on any person who trusts Christ as Savior. Every genuine believer will be accepted by the LORD and will live eternally in God’s Holy Presence. Jesus Christ has already borne the penalty of sin for every true believer. The person who genuinely seeks to be delivered from judgment through Christ is in fact saved from God’s condemnation against sin. Jesus Christ has paid the full penalty for sin. There is a limit to God’s compassion and patience, just as His Word declares: “The wages of sin is death” Rom.6:23.The person who continues in sin will face the terrifying judgment of God. But the person who hopes in the LORD, trusting His Word, will be saved. The nation had disobeyed the word of God in many ways including ignoring the sabbatical years according to Leviticus.God’s judgment is coming. It is inevitable, undisputed, and irrevocable. It cannot be stopped. The LORD has already set the day of Judgment, and no person will be able to escape it—no person, that is, except the person who has accepted Jesus Christ as his or her personal LORD and Savior. But everyone else—every single one of us—will stand before the LORD to give an account for all the unrighteousness and injustices we have committed in our bodies.
