Mt. Mizpeh, Confession Lessons_07PT1 Genesis 31:43-55;1 Samuel 10:17-19;Judges 21:1-3 Mizpeh comes from a Hebrew root word meaning “to make bright.” How fitting is its name because Mizpeh was to be a place of watchfulness and alertness. When I examined The events that took place at locations that were referred to as Mizpeh, I found a common theme among them. It was the theme of “confession.” That was interesting to me because “confession” is an important element of being spiritually alert and watchful for the Lord Confession Lesson’s on Mt. Mizpeh 1. Confession about Refuge and Rest Genesis 31:42-53 Jacob’s confession reminds us to keep a watch on our character and integrity. 2. A Confession of Rejection and Rebellion 1 Samuel 10:17-19 Samuel confessed they had rejected the Lord in spite of all the wonderful things God did for them. Mizpeh is the watchtower and this particular confession is a reminder to watch out for corruption that may seep into your heart. 3. The Confession of Resolve Judges 21:1-3 A civil war erupted in Israel between the tribe of Benjamin and the other eleven tribes because the Benjamites would not surrender over and punish sodomites who raped, abused, and killed the wife of a Levite. A confession of resolve was made by the men. A vow was made not to give any daughters to any Benjamites. These fathers had made up their minds they were not going to give their daughters to any Benjamite men. It was a matter of conviction with them. As Christians, we should have some convictions that we will not compromise for anything. Convictions are essential if we are to avoid being swept away by the waves of waywardness, wickedness, and worldliness.
