Living For One Reason_02
Living for One Reason_02 2 Thessalonians 1:11-12 Series: FOCUS You’ve seen how the focus works on a camera. The lens knows how to lock in on the subject, making it sharper than everything else in the image. It’s the same with an effective, productive life. Those who live well are able to identify and zero in on what really matters. Today we’ll talk about living your life with one primary Purpose (Reason), one (Reason) that supersedes all else. I wish I could tell you in a thirty-second sound-bite exactly what your Purpose (Reason) is and how you need to put it into practice, but that’s not how it works. Your life Purpose (Reason) is something you discover through the process of your journey. However, we need to be sure to pray for the right things.1. That God’s Calling Would Be Fulfilled—1:11b There were three concerns in Paul’s prayer. 1. Their worthiness (v. 11a). 1.That God’s Power Would Be Received—1:11c There were three concerns in Paul’s prayer. 2. Their walk (v. 11b). That God’s Name Would Be Honored—1:12 There were three concerns in Paul’s prayer. 3.Their witness (v. 12). How to discover and refine your life’s Reason 1. You have a calling to live up to. 2. You have some big plans to pursue. 3. God’s Reason can be fulfilled only through God’s power. What does Paul’s word to the first century Christians at Thessalonica say to us as twentieth century Christians at PVBC? Let me summarize Paul’s challenge in a simple sentence: We are to do the work of God in the power of God for the glory of God. God’s Purpose (Reason) for your life begins today right where you are: Holding yourself to a higher standard, looking for opportunities to do good, and surrendering yourself.
